Interview by university
The UQ interview, and how to prepare for it.
University of Queensland interviews as an MMI. This page is what is particular to UQ: the shape of the interview, when it falls, who is invited and what the school says it marks. The method for the format is on its own page, linked below.

Checked against study.uq.edu.au (opens in a new tab) on 3 October 2026. Dates from the school's key dates (opens in a new tab). Thresholds and dates move between cycles, and the school's own page for this year is the one to trust. Every school's dates.
When will I hear back from UQ?
Offers for 2027 entry: Mid December 2026, by email, for applicants who applied directly to UQ. Greater Brisbane applicants who applied through QTAC are ranked for offer after the interview, and UQ gives no date for them. The offer is the answer. UQ publishes no date for telling you how the interview went, so hearing nothing in between is normal.
Every school's offer dates, and why the wait is so long.
My note on UQ
UQ names four qualities and no more: kindness and compassion, integrity, adaptability and verbal communication. That is a short list to prepare against. For each one, have a real example ready, and expect at least one station to test it without naming it.
Preparing for an MMI
Each station is marked on its own, so the two skills that matter most are reading the prompt for what it is really asking and leaving a bad station behind in its room. Both can be practised, and both are what the stations on this site are for.
What to work on
UQ publishes “verbal communication skills”, “integrity”, “kindness and compassion”, “adaptability” among the qualities it assesses. These are the marking domains that covers, and the ones its stations most often turn on.
- Communication Do you answer the question that was asked, clearly, at the right length, and can you be understood by someone who is not a doctor?
- Ethical reasoning Can you see both sides of a dilemma, name the principle at stake, and reach a decision you can defend?
- Empathy and perspective-taking In a role-play, do you notice how the other person feels before you try to solve their problem?
- Self-awareness When you talk about a failure, is it a real one, and do you know what it taught you?
Expect to be asked why UQ in particular. How to answer “why do you want to study here?”
Stations to run first
These cover the areas UQ says it marks, or the areas its stations most often turn on. Thirty seconds to read each question, two minutes to answer it out loud.
